Description

For the Piri bottling, winemaker Martin Nigl carefully blends three small plots in Seftenberg that share identical gradients, mica-schist soil, and microclimate. While this means the resulting wine could not feature a single vineyard name – he considers it to be a single terroir. The terraced plots are near the iconic Senftenberg castle ruins and feature unique soil types that also include slate and loess (a blend closer to that of Wachau). While their wines are listed as sustainable, they are far closer to biodynamic (without the use of copper). Martin uses stainless steel in the cellar with native yeast fermentations and never fines. Piri is a very precise dry Riesling with brilliant aromatics of orchard fruit and river stones. The palate presents more juicy fruit up front supported by a dense acidic structure. Light to medium bodied and very smooth.
