Description
The Hubert Lignier estate enjoys a solid reputation, based for a long time on the finesse and concentration of its wines. The signature of the estate is definitely found in its organic wines for their elegance and their long ageing.
In 1991, the son of Hubert Lignier, Romain, had joined his father. When he died in 2004, his brother Laurent took over in 2006. The estate now has 11 hectares of vines, very close to Morey, Gevrey and Chambolle, certified organic since the 2019 vintage. 2.5 hectares spread over six plots (Chambolle-Musigny Les Bussières, Gevrey-Chambertin Seuvrées, etc.) are also grown biodynamically.
Agriculture is therefore particularly meticulous and everything is aimed at the best quality of grapes (manual harvesting, low yields, strict sorting) since, as Laurent Lignier says: “75% of the quality of the wine depends on the quality of the vine”. This vine has an average age of 50 years. The grape varieties are mostly Pinot Noir (97%), accompanied by a little Gamay Noir with white juice (3%) and Aligoté for the white.
The vinifications are not very interventionist insofar as the estate avoids introducing inputs. The cuvées are characterized by a third of whole bunches favoring a certain freshness in the wine. Only indigenous yeasts contribute to the fermentation. This is followed by very long aging (21-22 months) on lees. The wines are neither fined nor filtered. We find a nice suppleness, a silkiness and a velvet in the tannins. Wines with great aging too!
