Description

We maintain our roots. We follow our traditions. We strive for quality. We continue to experiment with the Monastrell. The conviction, perserverance and power of Ramon Castano Santa have all been neccesary in his determination to achieve the highest levels of qualty in the wines produced with the most planted grape variety in the area: the Monastrell. Ramon Castano’s relationship with the world of wine dates back various generations with a family history of vine cultivation and wine makers. In 1950 Ramon built the new winery, modernising and upgrading the technical methods by which the family vines were worked. Howevert it was not until 1980 that the first wines were bottled. At the start Ramon’s contemporary attitude towards wine production seemed too daring in the conservative world of wine in Yecla, seeing as the Monastrell already facilitated easy commercialisation in the bulk market.Yet since then the family’s striving for quality has never altered. The gradual incorporation of his three sons into the family winery throughout the period of the 80s brought with it a new focus: to reinforce their presence in the national market and begin a new stage of expansion at an international level. The Castano family has always been pioneering in the area, experimenting with the Monastrell variety, as much on its own as blended, introducing the lastest technological advances, from the vine to the winery itself and implementing the use of high quality systems which allow for better wine creation.
