If you love Barolo but don’t want to break the bank – this powerful Nebbiolo was sourced just outside of the city in the village of Roddi. Eugenio Bocchino biodynamically farms a handful of small parcels, including the acclaimed 1.5 hectare Roccabella. As far as winemaking, Bocchino attempts to remove himself as much as possible from the process and the let the grapes and terroir speak for themselves (he detests new oak and ages in large neutral barrels for just over a year). In fact, he does so few pump-overs and rackings that the careful handling of the fruit is almost closer to the production of white wine. Further, he bottles unfined, unfiltered, and with minimal sulfur. Medium bodied with red currant, black tea, herbs, earth, and grippy tannins that call out for a bold meal. Decanting recommended.
