Our Chardonnay comes from the Ferrington Vineyard, which was first planted in the late 1960s. It has a gentle south-facing slope, and has decomposed sandstone and clay soils with three to four feet of topsoil. Wineries sharing this site include William Selyem, Copain, Flowers, and Littorai.
We ferment with native yeast in 10% new French oak, 90% neutral French oak. The wine is never stirred, and ages on its fine lees for 12 months before bottling.
“The 2018 Ferrington Vineyard bottling of chardonnay from Poe is a tad less ripe than the Manchester Ridge version, tipping the scales at a very civilized thirteen percent and delivering a fine aromatic constellation of pink grapefruit, pear, a touch of fleur de sel, orange zest, lovely minerality, dried flowers and a touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is bright, primary and full, with zesty acids, fine focus and grip, a good core and lovely soil signature popping out on the long and classy finish. This too needs some time in the cellar to blossom, but it will be a fine glass of chardonnay and due course.” 2023-2035. 92 John Gilman

| Tasting notes | This gorgeous Tokaji is mineral and taut, yet with an undeniable fruit density at its core. Hints of salts and leafy green herbs join cool orchard fruits on the nose, just a touch of nutty barrel character, with a super-dry palate that has natural concentration to spare, real pithy citrus intensity, and spices adding to the lingering finish. Intense and yet quite subtle in its way, it a lovely, intelligent wine from Disznóko. |
