Nestled in the rolling hills of Monforte in a little, unassuming home and cellar, Gianfranco and his daughter Marta are still making some of the communes most seductive wines. These days at this cantina, along with many others, the next generation’s input is becoming more and more evident. Here, though the touch of the master is not diminished, in the cellar and I get the impression Marta has to gently coaxed her dad towards new ideas or shifts in style. Those adjustments are really just subtle tweaks in the winery that have, if anything, made for somewhat slicker expressions in what was already a remarkably gorgeous portfolio.
