Aboriginal for “a place we chose,” Alkoomi has been a family affair since 1946 in the isolated but thriving southwest corner of Western Australia. They produce a wide variety of wines, and even make high quality olive oil. Their Black Label Riesling is a terrific way to get acquainted with their offerings, delivering the goods the way a great dry Riesling should. Beautiful pale straw color in the glass, zesty citrus, and subtle notes of petrol on the nose with a noticeably bright acidity on the palate. A touch more tropical than your average riesling, but in the best way and without entering sauvignon blanc territory.
