The colour is a brilliant dark red with a scarlet hue. The nose displays intense aromas of dark cherry, red currant and blackberry fruits with hints of dried bay leaf, mint and subtle toasted vanillin oak. The flavoursome fruit driven palate showcases typical leafy black currant, red fruits and a hints of oak derived spice. Fine tannins and supple acidity lend structure and length. A wine to be enjoyed upon release, or will reward those who patiently cellar for 3-5 years. Cabernet, Merlot, Shiraz blend.

| Winemaker Notes | The fruit was machine harvested in the cool of night to retain flavour and freshness. Fermented on skins in static fermenters for ten days the wine was gently pressed off skins and completed alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tank. The wine was then racked and inoculated for malolactic fermentation. Following malolactic fermentation the wine spent 8 months maturation with French oak before select parcels were blended and prepared for bottling. The 2016 Houghton Cabernet Shiraz Merlot is a classic Houghton style. Easy drinking, bright and fruit driven, with fine tannins. |
